History Of RSES

Founding

RSES was launched in an era when the small commercial and domestic refrigeration industry was in its infancy.  At that time the only training available was through the factory and it typically lasted three or four weeks.  Those who completed the factory training were now considered a "factory-trained expert."  The majority of work was conducted by product dealers, distributors, or factory service departments.  As more installations were done the need for independent service operators increased and the need for collecting, distributing, and exchanging ideas and information became paramount.  It was through the untiring efforts of these independent service operators that RSES was born.

Though the scope and range of the industry has grown exponentially since then, RSES has remained dedicated to delivering technical information to HVACR professionals under a single vision and mission:

RSES International was formed in 1932 when there was found to be a need for sharing knowledge among those in our trade. It would be handled so that all can benefit and grow their knowledge in a way that can benefit the many people in the fast-growing trade at the time. Once International was formed, chapters were createded throughout the country and run by a volunteer board. Education and certification are at the top of the list.

Our chapter (Long Beach), was the first one created west of the Mississippi river and founded in 1937. The chapter began a long history of serving those in southern Los Angeles and Orange County areas. Later, chapters in San Pedro, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Gabrial Valley and other areas were created, but all of them except Los Angeles has since closed. The chapters last founding member, Al Eisnenbeiss, CM, passed away in May, 2007

Currently, the Long Beach chapter is still going strong and meets monthly in Downey, Ca. The Los Angeles chapter, after losing their meeting space near downtown L.A., co-meets with us.

Our chapter holds monthly educational meetings on the second Thursday of each month, holds quarterly exams on a Saturday for EPA-608, NATE, CM, and CMS candidates who wish to stand out in the sea of average technicians!

In June, 2017, the chapter celebrated 80 years!
